FAQ’s

This is a list of questions commonly asked about Suncoast Rehabilitation Center and the answers to those questions.

Q. How does Suncoast differ from other programs, including traditional 12 step programs?

A. Most conventional drug treatment programs don’t really teach a student to gain control over their own lives. They might be able to keep themselves from drinking or taking drugs by going to continuous meetings and having buddies that keep them inline, but that’s really not enough. The person hasn’t really regained control over their own lives or their addiction – they are constantly on alert to make sure they don’t slip.
Suncoast Rehabilitation Center puts the power back in the hands of the individual. He no longer needs outside help to keep from taking drugs or drinking – he’s got it under control. We do this through a unique and extensive program of cognitive therapy, physical purification that rids the body of drug residues that could cause physical and mental cravings, and thorough training on life skills that enable the person to change their lives. Our program has overwhelming results showing that an addicted person can recover and take control over their life and future happiness.

Q. What kind of addictions can Suncoast Rehabilitation Center treat?

A. We can treat all forms of addiction, street drugs, prescription drugs or alcohol, no matter how severe the problem is. Our program has proven success with long-term drug users.

Q. What is the Success Rate of the Program?

A. The success rate is 70% over a two year period. In other words, follow up after two years shows that our graduates are still drug free. Other programs generally have a success rate of about 20%.

Q. How long does the program take to complete?

A. We do not graduate our students until they have addressed every issue that needs to be resolved for them to stay drug free. It takes most students about three or four months, but since each program is tailor-made for the individual and they go through it at their own pace, the time can vary.

Q. Are clients coming into Suncoast Rehabilitation Center treated with medication or other drugs such as Methadone?

A. We don’t use any medication or drugs at Suncoast Rehabilitation Center. You can’t cure addiction by replacing one drug for another Instead, our solution is natural and holistic.

Q. How much and what type of experience does the staff have?

A. Our staff here are all very well trained and continue their training on a regular basis. Many of our counselors are also recovered addicts. Having gone through the experience themselves, and the Narconon program, they know exactly what our clients are going through and how to help them. The bond they are able to form is very strong, which also helps the rehabilitation process.

Q. Who founded the Narconon Program?

A. On August 2, 1965, a former prisoner named William Benitez jumped down from his double bunk in his old cellblock and made the following notation on his wall calendar: “Decision to set up Narcotic Foundation.” He set the 18th of August as the day when he would meet with prison officials for permission to set up a drug rehabilitation program inside the prison. After reading a book called “Fundamentals of Thought,” Mr. Benitez also got in touch with American author L. Ron Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard shared his innovative discoveries in drug and alcohol rehabilitation with Mr. Benitez and these became part of the program. Prison officials were excited to help Mr. Benitez implement drug rehabilitation in the prison and, as a result, the first Narconon program, named by Mr. Benitez, began on February 19, 1966.

Q. How exactly does the purification portion of the program work?

A. Research done nearly 50 years ago showed that although drugs get out of the bloodstream quickly, they leave traces behind in the fatty tissues. These drug residues can stay in the fat cells for years and are released little by little into the rest of the body – even though the person stopped taking the drugs. As the drug residues are released, they create physical and mental cravings for the drugs and can even cause full-blown symptoms to come back. With LSD, these are known as ‘flashbacks.’. It also causes the person to be in a continual state of stress. Using vitamins, oils and exercise, as well as sweating out the residues in the sauna, we clean out the body so completely that the form addict no longer has cravings – and they are healthier than they have felt in years.
